I have purchases several KORengir miniature roses and I think they are gorgeous. I have miniature roses in a section of one of my gardens that have thrived for about 3 years and am wondering about these varieties .... are they hearty? Any special pruning/care tips? Thanks for helping!

It is wonderful to read that you are growing roses in Salmon, Idaho. Is that USDA zone 3 or 4? For a more detailed zone map see: http://uncommonrose.biz/r/idaho.html. The miniature roses that you just purchased are Kordes roses, which have an excellent reputation for disease resistance. I was not able to find any information on the trade name (KORengir is the patent name) of your roses or the hardiness. You would treat these miniatures just as you have been successfully treating the others. I assume that you have been mounding the plants in winter. The book Hardy Roses by Robert Osbourne is a good resource; mine is currently lent out. It has some good reviews at amazon.com. It seems to me that he grows a variety of roses, including some hybrid teas, but buries the bud union six inches deep. I haven't yet tried that at my mom's in zone 6 in southern Idaho, but 'Peace' and 'Margaret Merrill' have been growing exceptionally well there with the bud union flush at soil level, despite the fact that they are yellow and white, respectively - the least hardy colors. Many species roses, e.g. R. foetida bicolor, and groundcover roses, e.g. 'Red Mediland', look fantastic there. For inspiration, check out: http://www.vintagegardens.com/rose_hardiness.html; and http://www.highcountryroses.com/index.html.

Thanks for the info .... we are in zone 4 .... but with careful mulching in the winter I can sustain many zone 5 species ... although the butterfly bush still eludes my careful tending! I love these roses and I hope they do welll!

Search internet for "korengir", you will probably get well-targeted hits as there may not be any other topics with same name, it being one of those modern combo cultivar names coined to promote the interests of commercial operations.
