This fine vegetable is eaten raw or cooked. Raw it is very pleasant, and its origin in nature is the same as that of Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Collard greens and Brussels sprouts. It grows well and seems impervious to many insects or I was just lucky. About 12 plants were purchased from a garden supply.

I am growing them for the first time this year and started both varieties from seed via the winter sow method (see winter sow forum @ Gardenweb.com) on 3/30 and had terrific results with germination by 4/5. I transplanted to the garden on 5/1 and 5/10.
I have the 'Early Purple Vienna' and 'White Vienna'. The 'Early Purple Vienna' are just now beginning to form the globes (for lack of better word).
You are right so far no pests have bothered these!! Can't wait to taste this new to me crop :))
