my king palm about three days ago, started going down hill. the trunk went from green to brown and the top appears to have burned and whole top just fell off. does anyone know what happened?

do a search on king palms .. but on my research i understood they can burn up from to much sun.... that might be the problem.. if its a new tree???? u planted.. or if its just overly hot then ususal?.. if not check with a land scaper in your area.. i no when mine started turning brown.. i hired a land scaper and all they did was feed mine ebson salt. and its great down and doing better then it ever has.. and so is my canary and my saga...not sure what yours might be.. but it dang sure cant hurt

    Bandit,

How long have you had your Canary Island Date Palm? I heard they're slow growing, but I'd love to have one.

Yes its in the ground .. and has been for 2 years , the second summer mine has grown 5 new branches but is only about 4 inches taller then it was.. so i guess it is slow grower.. but to me it really isnt b/c the branches come on fast.. this is only the second summer i have had it so i am very happy with how its doing... i think its getting to hot.. we have had 100 plus days for awhile.....but it was doing this b4 the 100 plus days.. but it was in 90's everyday b4 that and we dont have alot of humidity here.. so i think its just to hot for it..but i am happy to say.. the epsom is really helping all my plants.. my sago is looking great and has so much more growth now

I'm impressed that your King Palm survived the winter. How tall was it when you planted it in the ground?

well i dont get that cold here in augusta ga.. and when it gets cold it doesnt stay cold to long.

it was 4 ft 6 inches with the pot b4 i put it in the ground....the one i was suprised over was my canary palm.. i didnt think it would make it.. but it did.. we had 2 days of 37 degree and i put a refrig box over it..that i begged my local store for lol.. and it done ok.. i was scared it was going to dry but it is doing great.....and my sago is doing great now with the worries i had on it.. the only thing i still have a question on is my king .. but from what i have read its leaves are burning from the sun.. but i thought (duh me) that they got plenty of direct sun in fl. dumb me thought all palms were pretty much hot weather trees. but i am finding out they arent.....if it cont's i am thinking about moving it to a more shaded area and see what happens.. i just hate to move it b/c it has done so well... and it did make it the winter...so my thing is if it aint broke leave it alone.. or it might be..
