Identification: Kind of Cedar

    Hi, its my first time posting. My wife got this tree as present from a client. I wanted to turn it into a bonsai but I'd like to know more about the tree before starting anything. Here are 2 pictures. Thanks in advance

    It's a cypress, not a cedar; probably one of the cultivars of Monterey Cypress, such as Cupressus macrocarpa 'Goldcrest'. There are several other very similar cultivars, though.

    These yellow Cupress macrocarpa forms have in later years become highly prevalent in commerce as potted subjects, I see them everywhere potted plants are sold in my area. And people elsewhere, such as yourself ask about them on the internet so it is not a local phenomenon.
