another cherry in our neighbourhood. 'Snofozam' or 'Snow Fountain'. a small weeping tree in a neighbors front yard. i love the way the petals appear almost spoon like where they connect at the base with the sepals. you can see the green sepals through the gaps.
smaller tree 6ft, on private property, 23rd and st Catherine. 4 or 5 houses east from the corner of st Catherine, quite close to the city sidewalk in the NE corner of the property

Oh Lisa, a new location for Snofazam! Only Kensington's second Snofazam. You've done it, Wendy will want you to put it on the map. Good luck!

Laura, I see your post #366 from March 30, 2019 about the Ringwood Snofozam, but not for this year. And, it is not on the VCBF Neighbourhood Map for Kensington. Is it somewhere else? The only Snofozam on the Kensington map is the one for E. 29/Inverness.

Ah - oops - you're right! I took a shot or two, but I didn't post them. Here they are from a couple of days ago - I'll go look again tomorrow - this is pretty much right across from my house.

Kensington's Grand Akebono on E. 12 (north side, between Woodland and Knight) has the axe of extinction hanging over it, as indicated by the rezoning application sign for the two buildings on either side. Barely has two flowers open on March 28, 2020.

One of the Afterglow trees has begun to glow along Elgin Street, between E. 26 to E. 27th, March 29, 2020. Their Akebono companions are also starting. This will give the slowpokes in Kensington time to walk over there for an A+ viewing of the double A's in the next forecasted sunny period on Friday.

and then beyond on 3oth. North side of the block, closer to Windsor. a nice row of trees about to come into blossom, but the rest of my family was impatient for me to get going so i didn't take a close up of the blossoms. I note that 'Akebono' is on the neighborhood maps for the corner of Windsor and 30th so could this be a whole row of them? , but i have taken the pic from the opposite side of the block? Anne says yes 'Akebono'

That's such a great, noticeable tree to see driving down 12th. And it's so wide, surely will be in the way of any development.

The two Somei-Yoshino trees in Brewers Park (west side Victoria Drive at E. 26) are in bloom at March 29, 2020, much behind the three further north across from Trout Lake community centre.

The three Somei-Yoshino trees on Victoria Drive, south of E. 16, across from the Trout Lake community centre are past peak bloom and already shedding blossoms, at March 29, 2020.

Laura, for a scrawny little thing, your Snofozam gave an impressive close-up. In bloom March 29, 2020.

Since we're into Snofozam, here's a new baby, on the south side of 31st Ave. between St. Catherines and Prince Albert:

The Sargent Hybrid trees are opening up nicely along E. 13, west of Clark/Knight on March 31, 2020.

Kensington's mighty Yae-beni-shidare is starting its bloom March 31, 2020, finally linking up to its Beni-shidare brother on the other side of the walkway (north side E35th, between Culloden and Knight.

Speaking of Yae-beni-shidare trees, I went to see the one on the north side of 26th, between Windsor and St. Catherines, and it was hard to find any blossoms that had opened - it's hard to be patient these days, but I guess we'll have to:

However, I may have cleared up some of the confusion about the block just west of there, between St. Catherines and Prince Albert - there is quite an assortment of cherry trees there, starting with an Akebono (?) in full bloom, and then two or three trees of another cultivar, apparently Sargentii hybrid, and a few Kanzan trees, which have not begun to open at all. At the very west end of the block, on the south side, there appears to be an ungrafted Akebono - I was able to get right up to the blossoms - a very nice little tree.

The planting of Akebono trees on 30th between Windsor and St. Catherines is almost in full bloom now, with bees buzzing around some of the trees, too - nice!
