About one month ago, I bought 4 sweet potatoes.

In NewGuinea they are called Kau Kau.

Well I cut 2 of them in half

    and planted them.

Now they are about 5 inches tall.

Any one know how long it will take

before my crop will be ready for picking?

My mom used to grow sweet potatoes, but I have never planted them. From what I read, they take a long warm season to mature (newer short season varieties are available.) I would guess you have warm summers in Australia and by fall will have some tasty root tubers. (Note true tubers, like potatoes, form on underground stems.)

Kau kau means "food" in Hawaiian, doubtless there is a connection. Sweet potatoes have been grown there a long time.

Kau Kau grow like a creeper, or vine,

not like normal potatoes with upright leaves & stems.
