Kansas Weed Pods

    These prickly pods were found at a lake in NE Kansas...I collected a few but none had the seeds still inside. Recent mowers had taken out any sign of what they came from. They were growing near a lake? As the skin deteriorated...the pricks go away...and it all forms a beautiful webbing....the center of the pod is 2 chambered. Any ideas?

    This is a dried seed pod of Echinocystis lobata.

    That's the fellow! Thanx so much. I've often seen it in it's 'living' form so had no idea was the same thing.
