    Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia) is the state flower of Connecticut.
    Evergreen shrub or a small tree, with branch structure that resembles old specimens of the dissectum forms of Japanese maples. This is the wild type form, but there are numerous hybrids.

    These are not, of course hybrids in the sense of crosses between species.

    Good point! Selected varieties is probably a better term.
