    I have a Kalmia.
I am wondering how long it can last in a pot?
I don't have much land left to plant it.
It is now in a 20" pot.
It is located in the North Vancouver, Lonsdale area.

Will probably need to add fresh potting soil each year. Your main problem will be eventual decomposition of the organic component into a muck-like condition, fertilization with appropriate product (as with other potted plants) is liable to be required also.

Be sure to situate the specimen so sun does not hit the sides during warm weather and cook the roots.

    Hi Ron:
Thanks. I never thought about the roots of the plants within the pot.
    Hmmm.
Does a Kalmia have its roots in a cooler spot?

All heath family plants need a cool root run. In addition, any kind of potted plant may be damaged by heating of the roots in small nursery containers.
