This is a pic of my paddle kalanchoe (I believe it is) and it’s top half is covered in this waxy white powder. So this is normal? Also recently it has started to lean over from its weight, should I continue to hold it up with a support as shown, or prune it shorter? It’s at about 48” now with a rod for support. Thanks!
The waxy powder is a normal protective coat produced by the plant. The top half of your plant is the flowering structure, which will fade after flowering. I am not very familiar with how the plants produce new growth. I think they slowly spread. If you think the plant might fall over without the stake, I would leave it while the flowers are present to prevent the damage that that would cause to the plant. The flower is supposed to be quite showy.
