    Hello,

I have two kalanchoes, one in particular is very healthy, while the other is okay except the tips of the leaves are turning brown and shrivelling. Because my other plants are alright, I don't think that the problem is temperature or sunlight, instead I have two theories:

Is it possible that it just needs to be replanted, it is in a fairly small pot. I bought it last fall (~6 months ago)

Also, I have read that this might happen to plants if the soil has a salt build-up. I have also read the solution to this is flushing the soil with water. Is it safe to do this with a succulent like a kalanchoe?

    Thanks!

are the plants the same variety of kalanchoe? there are many types and water/sun requirements can actually be a little different.

could you post some pics of the plant that's having difficulties? seeing it would really make it easier to give you some feedback!

Hello! I just took a picture of the sad one. It's quite spindly, I'm not sure what to do about that, but I just replotted it because the pot was very small.

I have attached a picture of the leaf that is unhappy and one of the plant, because I don't know specifically what type of kalanchoe it is.... but I bought it at the UBC botanical garden plant sale!

Not positive, as I haven't grown this one, but it looks like Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, often called Christmas kalanchoe. There are lots of cultivars with different flower colors (you've probably seen these with orange-red or yellow flowers in stores in the fall). Getting them to rebloom can be difficult and I've heard the plants decline after blooming, so you get a better plant by taking cuttings than keeping one after it flowers. But don't toss it out or chop it up until someone else says this is the right ID!

    not sure of the variety.

it probably could use a bigger container - especially if you see roots coming out of the bottom. just go up in size no more than 2 inches in diameter.

since it's bottom leaves that are turning, it's probably just the normal growth/death that all plants go through. it's possible that it's a little over-watered or under-watered as well. when plants are in small containers it can be very easy to make mistakes and not even realize it.
