I have noticed that the UBC Botanical Garden is often mentioned when I read descriptions of this plant. Can anyone tell me the the origin of Juncus effusus 'Unicorn'? Thanks in advance for any information.

  2. Juncus effusus 'Unicorn' was a selection from the UBC NATIVE Garden. It was originally planted by Al Rose who did considerable collecting around the province. Actual provenance is unfortunately not recorded. 'Unicorn' was compared to Juncus 'Spiralis" 'Afro' 'Curly Wirly' and found to be far more robust. It attained 1 m. in height compared to 30 cm or less for the other cultivars. Unfortunately 'Unicorn' is sometimes labelled as 'Spiralis'
Unicorn is of particular value in floral art.
