    Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with Jujube trees in the Vancouver area. From what I've read, I'm pretty sure they could survive here. They seem to have flowered in the Puget Sound area and low cascade regions in Washington State. Anyways, if anyone can let me know if they've tried this tree or not that would be great

    Thanks

I worked at a nursery in the fraser valley and a few years ago we carried the jujube and sold a number of them. I couldn't relate any feedback because we didn't get any! Not sure why though so if you can find one, give it a try..

I know Jujubes can handle cool weather so I have reason
to believe this tree can grow in Vancouver. The area
of concern will be that the fruit requires rather warm
weather in order to fully ripen. If memory serves me
right I think 'Li' is hardier than 'Lang' is but Lang will
produce fruit at a younger age.

Fruit can be picked and ripened indoors. 'Li' is partly self-fertile, 'Lang' requires cross-pollination to set.

I agree with Ron B. We always recommended to plant these
in twos. If you can ever find the old form of Jujube before
the selected seedlings were found and later named, then you
will not will need a pollen source. The old form is self-fertile.

    any updates on this fruit?

This fruit is really good. I used to eat it a lot in Dominican Republic when I was in grandparents house.

I've had my Jujube tree for three years now. The first two years, 05 and 06, it just settled in and didn't do much at all. Last year it started to sprout new shoots and this year it exploded with new growth. I don't know how old the tree is. The girth of the tree is 1 3/4 inches in diameter. No flowers on the tree this year.
I'm not sure if we need a longer summer here in Vancouver (West Vancouver to be exact) to get fruit on a Jujube tree.
Would really like to get fruit but not sure if I need two trees, male and female. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated.
