If you have both please share how they compare, which you like better and why. If you think there is a better selection for a yellow JM please share that as well. Thanks!

Thank you. I know Gomero has them both as well, I wonder if he will give his opinion or maybe he just feels the same as you.

I have two 'Jordans' and one 'Summer Gold'. You may see below a clipboard comparing them. The 'Summer Gold' gave fruits this year for the first time and, to my surprise, they were also sticking up which may indicate that it is in fact a hybrid palmatum x shirasawanum. The two 'Jordans' do not have exactly the same leaves. I suspect that 'Jordan' is also a hybrid.

They are all in the ground now in quite sunny and hot positions. They all get a bit burned in the top at the end of the summer, but this is quite acceptable. If anything, I would say that 'Summer Gold' takes the sun better than the 'Jordan'

Thanks Gomero, nice comparison pic. I personally like the leaf of Jordan better. The color looks very close in most pics I've seen with Summer gold having a slight edge but it looks opposite in your pic. I can tell in your pic that Alex is correct in that Summer golds sumaras look like a brighter red. It's really hard to pick one.

Do you favor one or the other? How do they compare in form and does one or the other seem to grow any faster? Thank you for your help.

In addition to what I said of 'Summer Gold' being more sun resistant than 'Jordan', I may also add that it is a stronger grower. However, as every maple grower knows, vigor depends on many factors, including understock health, graft quality,...

Otherwise I would have a hard time choosing. If anything I find the leaves of 'Jordan' more attractive, well formed it would certainly make a stunning tree.

Thank you for the info. I think my best bet is to just pick whichever individual tree I like the looks of better. I will have a few of each to choose from in person. I'm sure I'll be happy with either.

One other thing I have not been able to find info on is fall color. Do either of them have any fall color worth mentioning?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Rufretic,

They both have pretty nice fall colors. You can check out 'Jordan' here Jordan
'Summer Gold' is like many palmatums, some years lots of fiery oranges some others more red.

Very nice. I'm glad I asked because I assumed they would be like Aureum which is just yellow from what I've seen. I'll probably have to get both as well as Aureum. This is a very addicting hobby, I just can't seem to get enough :-)

Thanks again, you are a very helpful contributer to this forum!
