    Hello,
Can you please help??? I have a Japanese Umbrella Tree which was recently damaged by a falling limb from another tree. The Umbrella tree is approximately 15 yrs. old and was 15 feet tall prior to the damage. When the limb from the other tree fell on the Umbrella, it broke off the top 2 feet from the main trunk of the tree. It was not a "clean" brake.
    - Will the tree survive?
    - Is there anything I should do to assure it's well being? Should I trim the tree to make a "clean" brake or "seal" the broken area?
    - Is there anyway of "grafting" or somehow "re-attaching" the broken trunk?
    - Will it continue to grow to reach it's expected height of in excess of 30ft.?

Thank you very much for any help you can offer.

Sciadopitys? Will probably sprout new tops at some point. If more than one appears select one and prune the others out. Or existing side branches will develop an upward orientation near the ends, become replacement tops. Again you want to select one to become the new top, although in this case completely pruning out the others might be too radial - snipping back the competing replacement leaders instead might be preferable. You could also take the bull by the horns and select a side branch, tie it to a stick attached to the trunk in an upright position. This is liable to cause the branch so treated to become erect-growing and take over for the lost terminal.

To work on a 13' tree you will need a self-supporting ladder tall enough to reach the area of concern.
