I'm wondering if there are trees in my garden that I shouldn't have with respect to invasive or harmful species in BC, specifically the Japanese Snowbell tree or magnolia tree (I don't know which kind this one is, it has large deep pink flowers in the spring).

Neither of these is liable to go wild in this region. You may get some Styrax seedlings coming up beneath or near the parent tree, within your garden, as this generates carpets of fallen fruits here which sometimes germinate in cultivation.

If you are interested in what kinds of trees have been seen growing on their own in the general vicinity have a look at Wild Plants of Greater Seattle by A.L. Jacobson. Details of the current edition are on his web site. He is a thorough researcher, there will be very few occurrences of trees growing wild - down this way anyway - that he has not mentioned.

Thanks for your reply. I'll check out Jacobson's book.
