Can anyone please tell me whether this plant is a variety of Japanese Maple and, if so, what kind? I'm at a loss, as I've had it for awhile and it's done very well, but lately random leaves are turning yellow and falling off at an alarming rate - but at the same time it's got frequent new growth. I'm feeding it more than I think I should, as that seems to stave off the yellowing for a few days, but I think there must be some other problem. It gets plenty of light and water, but without knowing what it is, I can't diagnose. Really don't want to kill this plant!! Please help! Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you what it is, but I can tell you it is not a Japanese maple. Hopefully someone who knows more will be able to help further.
