Need some professional advice--we've had this japanese mapel tree for about 1 1/2 years. Starting this year we have noticed these while spots all over the leaves. The tree is still growing, it just looks unhealthy and the color isn't vibrant. I spoke with the nursery where we purchased it and they said this is normal, just where the dew has settled and then the hot sun has scorched the leaves. Does this sound right or is there another reason for my leaves to look like they are dying???
Every one of the Japanese Maples we have successfully planted has had brown crinkly areas on the edges of the leaves the first summer, whether planted in fall or spring -- small areas but a bit unsightly. I have never been able to figure out what it is, possibly just a shock to the tree to be re-planted. The next year the browning is gone. Try to mist the tree too, as you water it, and don't spray any chemicals or fertilizer on the leaves.
Sounds believable. In our area, I'm seeing more leaves with blemishes than during some other years, and on various species: maple, birch, beech, etc.. Nothing outstanding. Also, sometimes nursery trees were fertilized and have bigger leaves. Seems to make a difference in summer heat sometimes.
