When is the best time to trim and how much is allowed?
    Also best time to fertilize.

You can trim lightly all year if you see the need
Major pruning should be left until autumn/early spring when the tree is dormant and before the sap begins to rise
Fertilising should be sparse. Too much fertilising will make your tree rather 'leggy' I would fertilise in springtime but others may have differing opinions
