Hi I'm new here and would appreciate some help. We have a Japanese Maple a little over 1 1/2 yrs old. Last year it was beautiful, this year the front is great, but the back and sides are almost bare. We live in Illinois. The front of the tree faces west and the back east, in front of our house. It was professionally planted. Is this tree dying? If so what can I do?

hi bonlou1.. im from western illinois.. and i have a nice since japanese maple and i had the same problem, but mine was quite larger, the whole tree looked like it was dead. i just cut back all of the dead branches, and hoped for the best. Before i knew it about 4 to5 months after i cut them back, I eventually seen new growth appear, and now its bushier than ever!... good luck
