I recently went to visit my Grandkids in Virginia , and brought with me a small 3 foot Japanese Maple Tree , I have not found a place for it , so we decided to just plant the tree on a larger pot, well this week we came home and found my poor tree was laying on the ground and the leaves look like they went through hell, it looks like the leaves are all drying ,is there anybody , that could help me save my tree. Thank You
Best case scenario the tree is going through transplant shock from being up potted and also going through relocation shock moving it from a different climate to yours. Sometimes they will 'throw' or lose 100 per cent of their leaves when stressed and come right back out when they recover. It is simply a sign of stress. Try to water at regular intervals like every 2 to 3 days without exception and put it in a shady spot for now to help reduce stress. Worst case scenario it is dead. A simple test that is failry consistent is how easy the leaves come off after they desicate. if they pull off easily or simply fall off and a bud is present your are probably ok. if the tree holds onto the dessicated leaf for dear life then it is likely at least part of the tree is dead. as stated before try to include some pictures. hopefully it is a combination of transplant and relocation stress which are both common especially in the summer for these trees.
