Can anyone suggest a species of Japanese maple tree that will truly stay red all summer? I'm looking for something I can keep at about about 8 - 10 feet tall. I'm in Toronto, and the placement has a north west exposure, with some significant wind, so it has to be fairly hardy. It will get about 6 hours of sunlight.

Thanks in advance. (Love this site!)

I have a Fireglow and a (red) Trompenburg that stayed pretty much various types of red spring to fall, but I suspect it also depends on growing conditions (how much sun, the type of soil, etc). Also an Orangeola, come to think of it.

Most kinds hardy to about USDA 6. "Significant wind" does not sound suitable, the laceleaf kinds in particular may sometimes lose new spring growth to cold in exposed positions even here in western USDA 8.

Lake County nursery is offering what appears to be a found plant (from how it is presented on their web site) that is a little more hardy, if you can find that on the market up there.
