Hi, last year I bought a lovely 4 year old diss. 'Ellen' for my daughter Ellen. We have called my newborn son Rory & I would like to get a maple for him also. Obviously there is no 'Rory' that I am aware of, but does anyone know of a maple that has something that even sounds like Rory in it's name ? A long shot I know, but where better to ask !
Appendix D of Vertrees 3rd ed. lists 'Ryuri' as a cultivar, which seems to be about as close as you can get to Rory. Maillot Bonsai has one for sale here, and it's also listed on Dick van der Maat's site. Best of luck! edit - it's "temporarily unavailable" at the Maillot Bonsai store, but still maybe worth an inquiry.
Thanks, that could work, with a little dodgy pronunciation I'm sure I could make that sound quite close to Rory.
Ah, you put the cart before the horse. Should have restricted the possible names of your son to maple cultivars, not the other way around!
