One half of my Japanese Maple seems to have died, but instead of the top half dying, which I've seen before, the left side has expired while the right side remains healthy.

I'm actually not entirely sure half of it has died. In my experience, dead Japanese Maple braches turn whitish, but on mine, the buds are still there but without any growth.

Should I simply prune the braches with no leaf growth even if they're still technically alive?
