I have a weeping maple that I planted last year. It is about 3 ft tall. It bloomed with the warm weather and then the late frost in April killed off the leaves. It is now June and the bottom of the tree is growing nicely but the top does not have anything. Last week I noticed some new leaves developing but they dried up in the heat and now I have nothing. I'm afraid these were the backup leaves and now they are gone. Will my tree still produce additional leaves at this point in time? Do you think it is gone and the whole top of the tree will have to be cut?

Make a small cut. If the branches are green, you'll get more leaves.

If brown, cut down until the rind is green, then stop.
