    Hi there,
My friend's japanese maple that I planted in the spring has been well watered and appears to be dying. the leaves are ragged and look burnt at the edges. I have attached a photo. It was planted in honour of her son that died so I desperately want to keep it alive. Please advise.
    thank you

Your tree is not dying, it is browning off which is common with newly planted Japanese maples, since their roots are slow to become established.....keep the soil moist, but not soggy and protect the tree this winter by wrapping it with burlap to protect it from the winter winds if your winters are severe......

Further agreement: I think it looks OK for a first year in the ground. Be especially careful not to over water, if the roots are in wet it will risk serious damage.

    Good luck.
