I have been looking for a hedge bamboo to provide a little privacy from neighbours.

I was given some bamboo roots which I planted last week. I had been trying to identify what kind it was due to the different "heart shaped" leaves and have now, after much google searching, come to the conclusion that it is Japanese Knotweed and not bamboo at all. From what I am reading I should probably dig it up asap and burn it???!!!

I planted on a bit of a hill which slopes to a small wet area where a spring flows.

I live in Zone 3 with -40 degree winters. Should I follow my gut feeling and get rid of the stuff??!!

Yes, definitely one to be rid of, as quickly as possible!

Japanese Knotweed is a very invasive, noxious weed. If that's what you think you have...yes...get rid of it all ASAP!
