   I have a jade that I want to prune. Is there a way you can force new growth at the lower part of the stem like scaring it or something?

   Look at the nodes on the stems, just above this area rub your thumb nail, through to almost the stem. Be patient, Jade plants are!. This method works with a lot of plants.
