    Hi :)
I came across this in my boyfriend's backyard and was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what it is.to me the flower looks similar to a carnation. Its growing under a yellow bell with a couple hibiscus plants around. I'm located in the Tampa/St. Pete area of Florida.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Gardenia jasminoides, I think. It's certainly very similar to mine. If I'm right, it will start to become intensely fragrant this evening.

I think this is it, especially with the mention of the fragrance, it always smells so nice out there in the evening, I just wasn't sure where it was coming from. :)

Go stick your nose in one of the flowers this evening. As night progresses, they get more and more fragrant - I love to sit on my balcony at night when the gardenias are in bloom, it's almost intoxicating.

I think saltcedar identified it correctly, I have seen both Tabernaemontana and Gardenia and this plant is no Gardenia.
