This is growing in northern New Jersey in a damp shady spot under a pine tree. The greenery is lily of the valley, but I'm wondering what the pods are. They're growing directly out of the ground with no leaves or flowers. The white buds are crunchy, about the consistency of garlic, but they're full of small white seeds.
