Hi all, This past week was the third highest weekly post total in the past 55 weeks (the peak is usually early May). Last year's total postings were also higher than the previous year's postings, by about 10-15%. This is an interesting reversal of a long, slow trend downward. People abandoning Facebook? Not sure... It is also an excellent time to post your questions and get a quick reply. UBC Botanical Garden staff--and particularly the horticultural staff--aren't permitted to work on-site right now (with few exceptions). So you'll see some of them becoming much more active on the forums as they work from home. Stay healthy and safe!
Part of the increase could be due to people spending more time online due to COVID-19 restrictions around the globe. I think it's fortunate that people have the ability to connect with others, even while confined, during this time through forums like this one.
It doesn't explain the 2019 bump over 2018, but yes, I think that's a logical conclusion for what we are seeing now. Thanks always for your contributions, by the way.
I've seen a number of people complaining online about Facebook yet it still seems quite dominant, with even entities that have both web sites and a Facebook presence appearing to not keep their web sites updated. As though they think Facebook is where it's at, regard even their own web sites as obsolete baggage.
