What is this Itea-like tree (here the www it's published on) photographed by the late J. C. Raulston in VanDusen Botanical Garden, Vancouver in 1990? Did it ever get identified? I've stumbled upon the J. C. Raulston's Slide Collection only recently and am pursuing a little query of my own. The tree might be a Clethra species, Oxydendrum or Castanopsis sp. ... I'm not a member of JCRA, so I can't see the photo in higher resolution, which would be helpful. Maybe someone from Vancouver area knows this nice specimen (if it's still alive, it ought to be huge)?
I'm pretty sure Mr Raulston would recognize a Sourwood in a heartbeat, so this guess is rather doubtful.
I think VanDusen might have one or more fairly big Prunus lusitanica - as many times as I have been there I don't remember for sure now (last visit some years ago). http://www.cm-pedrogaogrande.pt/patrimonionatural.htm
Thx, Ron, this seems plausible, as it blooms in June. Although I didn't suppose any Prunus might be such a prolific flowerer, I was not familiar with this one.
