Can anyone tell me why some new growth leaves on this Acer palmatum look like they are drying up at the tips? The tree gets irrigated regularly. About every three to four days as needed. I am not using any fertilizer. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hope it's not verticillium wilt fungus.

Pretty sure that those mushy tips are not attributable to Verticillium. Leaves on my trees get it now and then and i've never been sure why. It strikes at different times and seems to hit most plants. It's always been a temporary affliction. I've had it on one year grafts and they've grown on with no obvious ill effects.

Be great to learn how to eliminate this condition.

May be a cultural factor, like too much nitrogen. I've also seen leaf tips burned by flouride and chlorine in the local tap water. The water stays on the leaf tips the longest, and the checmicals cause the burns.

Can also be wind and / or sun. I don't think this is the dreaded Verticillium Wilt, though...

This condition was discussed a while back in this thread.

Frost seemed a good explanation at the time. Since then it's afflicted other plants even at the height of summer. It seems to stick around for a bit then it may not return for some time.
