Identification: Is tree a subalpine fir or?

    This tree was growing at Lava Point, UT. This is a high elevation area.
    While the needles and young cones looked like the pics of subalpine fir, the bark did not.
    Other specimens (smaller and probably younger?) had bark that looked more like the pictures in my tree guide. Is this just what happens to older specimens or is this tree something else?

    Yep, looks OK for Abies lasiocarpa to me.
