Lila Pereszke identified picture 1 as Verbascum.

Are pictures 2 and 3 also Verascum?
Any ideas as to what variety?

I'd like to cultivate these some more.

Yes; maybe Verbascum nigrum, but it's a tricky genus to identify to species.

If it were me I'd start with V. blattaria, see where that went.

I believe you nailed it, Ron B.
    Verbascum blattaria or moth mullein.

    Wouldn't you know it?
I find a really neat plant and voila!, it turns out to be an invasive species.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbascum_blattaria"V. blattaria has also long been known to be an effective cockroach repellent, and the name blattaria is actually derived from the Latin word for cockroach, blatta."
Having been a poor student in "that part of town" years ago, I fully comprehend how "cockroach" and "invasive" go together.
