is this some kind of fungi or tree parasite or what?

    I've seen these things on various trees which leads me to believe it's some kind of parasite. I have no idea what it is or how to deal with it. Thank You.

    It is Tillandsia usneoides (air plant or 'Spanish-moss'), a species of bromeliad growing as an epiphyte. It is just using the tree as a parking lot, not doing any harm, so it is safe to leave it.

    Tillandsia recurvata for sure. AKA Ball Moss.

    Looks like Ball Moss, T. recurvata. Here is a link which will help you to identify which one.
