Is this Lilac?

    I moved in late last summer. This still hasen't bloomed anything. One other bush that is similar had a couple lilac blooms... maybe 4. But they don't quite look exactly the same???

    Looks like it has the toothed leaf margins etc. of a forsythia. These bloom early in the year from buds formed the previous year. Whacking it down prevented flowering - although these often flower so abundantly that even when hard pruned some buds are left. Maybe it is one of those that has the flower buds killed in colder climates. Or a kind that does not bud well on the lower parts of the shrub.
