I live in San Joaquin County, CA and found these beautiful fruits on a tree in my front yard. I have no idea what they are. All I can tell you is they go from yellow to red and get down right mushy when they turn red. So mushy in fact, a ripe one just squished in my hand as I attempted to pull it from the tree.

Any help would be appreciated...thanks. strange fruit.jpg

Looks like Arbutus unedo fruit. Bland, mushy, not sure if they are toxic or not, my poisonous plants books doesnt have a listing for them. AKA Strawberry tree.

Arbutus unedo is non-toxic and as mentioned, bland and mealy to the taste. I can think of much better fruit to eat.

Harmless but unappealing. 'Unedo' means "I eat one".
