Lovely flower widespread in my backyard (perhaps a bit invasive but it keeps down the buttercups). Need help identifying it on my continued mission to learn the names of the garden flowers. Thanks to all.

Both, Anemone nemorosa and Buttercups are in the same family of plants.

The family Ranunculaceae to which both anemones and buttercups belong also includes many other somewhat surprising members such as hellebores, clematis, delphiniums, eranthis, thalictrums and others.

Wow, I didn't know about this at all. The breadth of the families is always astonishing. I knew about Rosaceae but not Ranunculaceae. Thanks so much to both of you.
