Just bought a house and I am trying to identify some of the existing plants. This first one is a 6' tall bush with 1-1.5" shiney leaves with smaller leaf-like structures between the leaves. The new growth is red. The one small cluster of flowers remaining in the interior of the bush are bright red 2' across with 5 petals. Two of the petals look like they are torn off in the photo. There are apple-like fruits on the interior of the bush that look like they are growing directly off of the branches with no stem. There are 5 seed chambers inside of the fruits and they smell like a sour apple. Is this an ornamental apple, if so, are the fruits edible? I would like more information so I can give it the proper care.

Definitely. Apart from other differences, apples and crabapples do not produce such firm leaves.
