I live in southern California (Riverside), and we've been getting a weird substance on our lawn. From reading some posts here, I believe it's a slime mold, but was hoping someone could look at my pic and confirm. The blobs are about the size of a golf ball. Also, I'm worried about it being harmful to my dogs and baby. Thanks for any advice.

edited to add: it looks light and fluffy, but turns into a gooey mess if you touch it.

May be a lion's mane fungus, Hericium erinaceus.
    If so, not harmful.

Almost certainly a slime mold, given your description of texture. Harmless, but I suspect it would be best to keep baby away from it.

(as an aside, Hericium fungi grow on the decaying tissues of wood)
