Is this a grass or a grain

    this is growing in the BC gulf islands on a slope that was disturbed and has repopulated with lots of invasives as well as local grasses. The stem has almost a reddish look in the top part and is very delicate looking. Almost reddish - purple from a distance. I have tried to show the head clearly in the photo

    Looks like Bromopsis ramosa.

    Thanks for replying. I have looked at the images and description on Hairy-brome | NatureSpot

    and this particular plant does not have any hair on the stem. The number of spikelets on the head varies from 5 to 8 but a lot have 6

    E-Flora BC Atlas Page

    I believe it is Bromus sterilis.
