I spotted this odd semi-translucent white growth while backpacking in Northern Michigan along the Manistee River. They were growing on their own and with other mosses/plants. Cant seem to ID it from any plant or fungi resource. Anyone with an answer? dkow
Not a fungus, but one of about 800 plants that lack Chlorophyll. It's Monotropa uniflora. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monotropa_uniflora for more info.
Besides that they have no color, don't need sunlight to grow, survive as a parasite on fungi................
