The leaves don´t quite look like it to me but I really don´t know. The yellow flowers are about 6 cm long and the plant seems to grow in a cluster part way up the tree. I used to think it was the tree but now I´m starting to think it´s more like an epiphyte. It´s always too high up in thick growth for me to be able to distinguish.

I do not know what the tree is, nor the flower. I can tell you for certain that the yellow flower is not a Ficus spp. in any way. Ficus fruits have the flowers buried inside the flesh. There are never any showy flowers to see.

Shoot shoot shoot! The name of that plant is on the tip of my brain, but it's escaping me. It reminds me strongly of Iochroma, but the leaves aren't quite right - they point more towards the Apocynaceae. Bah. I'll keep looking.

Sorry, I meant ficus. Anyway yes Solandra certainly seems to be it. Thank you very much! Woody Plants Of Northwest South America covering Colombia, Ecuador and Peru states there are eight species in the region but doesn´t list them. I wonder where I might find a list of those species
