Is this a disease on my cucumber seedlings?

I started dill and picolino cukes inside using a sterile potting mix. They were doing fine until the first day that I set them outside. The following day a couple of leaves had grey and brown spots on them. The spots almost looked like a scale but when I tried to peel it off, the spots cracked open and were dry and crumbly. I put it down to scorching as the sun may have been a little too hot. Since then they have only been out in filtered sunlight and even though I removed all affected leaves, the spots are appearing on other leaves and cuke seedlings. There is no sign of any insect and the problem is not like mildew. I am puzzled as to why young plants that have not been exposed to anything would be having this problem. Could it be incorrect watering, a deficiency or something else? They should have been transplanted into the garden by now but I am reluctant to plant them outside if they have a disease that could spread to other plants. Would appreciate any comments. Were the cucumber plants hardened off and slowly exposed to increasing sunlight? The spots look like sunburn. I had similar spots appear on spinach that had been started under a plastic cloche after I removed the plastic.

No I left them out for a full day thinking the sun wasn't very hot. Since then I have been keeping them out all day but mostly in filtered sunlight. I will know better next time. Thanks.
