    Hello,

I am trying to ID this cactus and the closest image I could find was the carnegiea cactus. I just wanted to make sure. Thank you.

Too slender for Carnegiea. Sorry, not sure what it is, though.

    Hey,
Any chance of a slightly brighter picture it's a little hard to make out detail. For now I'm going with possible Echinocereus or perhaps Cereus or for the deep ribbing and columnar shape but that could change if I can get a better view.

    Okay here's what I've found..
    Echinocereus enneacanthus subsp. enneacanthus
    Echinocereus cinerascens
    and
    Echinocereus coccineus
I think it may be one of these or a variant. The shape and ribbing points toward an Echinopsis. I've had to wait for most cacti to flower before I could get that step further for full i.d., even then it's very difficult to find an accurate match unless it's a very common variety.
These sites are very handy because someone can always help point you in the right direction (even more so than books at times). Hopefully someone else might be able to help further with this one.
