    Hi Folks,

I just bought this Chamaecyparis nootkatensis 'Green Arrow' and when I got it home I noticed this (attached pictures). Is it a canker?

    Thanks,
    C.

Looks like it got damaged in handling.

That's a relief, so I can safely plant it beside my other Chamaecyparis?

    Thanks so much,
    C.

Or you could take it back and get another one, thus eliminating the need to figure out what happened to this one.

I can't take it back, I bought it in Canada and imported it into Pt. Roberts (a peninsula below the 49th parallel that is American but can can only be gotten to through Canada), I cannot take it back across the border without a phyto certificate and they are hard to get here (no USDA office). Otherwise I would take it back first thing tomorrow.

Yes, I've been to Point Roberts. Funny that it would work out that you wouldn't need a phyto to bring in the first one but not the second.

I needed a Canadian phyto. to get it into the US, that was easy, the CFIA went to the nursery and inspected it. To get it out I need an American one.

If it was inspected it should not have turned up with a canker right after, they must have thought it was damaged rather than diseased also.

That's what I'm hoping, but before I risk infecting my other trees I'd like some reassurance that they didn't just miss it. I've seen them inspecting and they vary from quite cursory to very thorough.
