I have lately noticed that some of the Scarlet Paintbrush (Castilleja miniata) have multiple heads on a single stalk as shown below. Is the multi headed plant a different species?

The multi-headed one looks like Castilleja miniata, while the one on the right looks like Castilleja rhexifolia. That's what I would guess in the field, based on colour of bracts, shape of leaves, and exsertion of flowers. Like many species, C. miniata can have single or multiple inflorescences, so that isn't a good character to determine species.
