I bought a Hibiscus 'crimson wonder' and was wondering if it is a perennial that will die down each winter, or is it more like a shurb. I've never grown them before. Right now it is just a tiny little stem sticking out of the ground. Thanks.

The hibiscus that you have is a Hibiscus moscheutos 'Crimson Wonder', also known as Rose Mallow. It is a herbaceous perennial meaning that it will die right back down to the ground in the winter. Here's a link to its description: http://web1.msue.msu.edu/imp/modzz/00000726.html

    Hope it helps!

Perennials and shrubs are not opposites of any kind - most shrubs are perennial, but many perennials are not shrubs, but can be any one of thousands of flowers (not flowering shrubs, which are likely to be perennial anyway, like yours), or trees, or grass.
