    Hi

I live in Vancouver and have a Cherry tree in my backyard. The cherry tree is between 20-30 years old. Last year the crop was abundant, this year not so much. The last 5 years there were almost not cherries produced or those that were produced were eaten by birds.

I trimmed off 1/4 of the large trunk branch because it was all dead and black. After looking through this forum I think I should have left it because my tree may be suffering from the sun.

    problems:
    • bark peeling off trunk (on right side only)
    • holes in trunk where bark peeling off
    • leaves have holes in them

The first picture is my tree on the right side is where the bark is peeling and has holes in it.

What is wrong with my tree and is there anything I can do?

If it is suffering from the sun's rays can I wrap up that section? These holes are scaring me a bit. Are their wood peckers in Vancouver? I like in the city center ish...not really out in the farm lands.

    thanks
